In Home Spa Day by Kate Denischuk, Lifestyle Manager

May 18, 2020

In our weekly Spark Magazine, our Lifestyle Manager has given the following advice to our residents on having a relaxing in-home spa day!  Residents can try their hand at making a face mask or pick one up from the Front Desk.

Banish Distraction

Cell phones, computers, iPads; whatever you use to stay connected to the world, shut it off for a couple hours. Although it might feel a little strange at first, there’s an unexplicable zen to powering off and really having some quiet. Turn off all electronics so you aren’t distracted by checking your phone every few minutes.

At-Home Spa Treatments

Revitalizing and Glowing Face Sheets

Sheet masks are an easy and effective way to provide your skin with an immediate and big boost of vitamins and moisture. They’re also a fun way to relax and pamper yourself. And these are just two of the many sheet mask benefits!

Use one of the scrub recipes at the bottom

Soak in the shower with a mask on to chill out and also help fix any pesky skin problems. Rich lotions infused with moisturizers and fragrance and a hydrating face cream after a mask and body scrub will make your skin glow. You’ll feel good inside and out, too.

Music

Have a favorite song that relaxes you every time you hear it? Put it into Pandora for a free, custom playlist that curates songs by your preference. It might take a little while to nail down the perfect station, but remember to use the like and dislike button on each song until you get the right mix of relaxing tunes. Whether you’re taking a bath or laying on the couch with a face mask, soothing music can make a big difference and help you zen out.

Meditate

Light a candle and pull up a guided meditation on Youtube. Allow yourself the time to relax and visualize being somewhere like a beach or a forest. Here are the benefits of meditating:

Increases energy and improves immune system functioning by reducing cortisol (the main stress hormone) levels in the bloodstream

Reduces and control blood pressure

Decreases muscle tension and aches often associated with feeling stressed and anxious

Reduces your risk of suffering stress-related diseases (diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol)

Rest

Whether it’s taking a cat nap or lying down, rest is an essential part of a spa day, reports Greatist. Kick your feet up and soak in the relaxation by closing your eyes and taking deep breaths to let go of tension. You’ll feel relaxed and revitalized after!

Glowing Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub
